| Love's Winsome Warrior |
| Her craft was wrecked. Staring up at it, Jonette groaned mentally. The undercarriage was blown clean off, exposing wires and framework. Steel panels had been torn open in the side, the burn marks clearly from high-powered missiles. How it had managed to land without exploding was amazing. Two Argon engineers were studying the outside of the craft, running electrode probes through the various huge tears in the hull and undercarriage, and studying the pictures transmitted back to the engineer-handtronics they held. The small ramp was down but twisted. Whether it had fallen down or they’d managed to open it Jonette didn’t know, but she meant to find out. “All right, Joni?” Wylin asked softly from beside her. Hearing the sympathy in his voice, she looked at him. “I’m not about to become a blubbering mess, Wylie.” He grinned a little, making his sinfully handsome face even more devastating. Stars above, the man was a lethal weapon by just facial features alone. “Want to go in?” he queried. “No, I want to stay out here and just look, allow some of you big, tough, he-men to go in and do my things for me instead.” She fluttered her eyelashes. “Because I’m so helpless and all.” “As helpless as a laser on full charge.” “Glad you noticed. Just be careful you don’t get burned.” “I’d like to be burned by you.” “I just bet you would,” she returned sourly. copyright: Angela Verdenius 2008 |
