1. How did the Heart & Soul series start? When I wrote Heart of an Outlaw, I never thought about it being the first book in a series. However, I was interested in her sister, Reya, and Soul of a Mercenary became her story. Then I liked Dana & Garrett, and their story followed in Heart of the Betrayed. Before I knew it, there was a series! 2. It's known as the Heart & Soul series, so where do the Love titles come into it? I was really intrigued by Kiile of the Argons, and his race was very sexual and sensual. When his heroine came along, she was so funny, and Kiile's bodyguards amused me, and so Kiile & Katina's story had a lot of humour and sexual intimacy/teasing in it. I realized that here I had an off-shoot to the H & S titles. The Loves titles are generally more humorous and sexy, and they don't always follow the same time lines as the H & S books, as their happenings often don't have anything to do with the H & S titles. They do overlap a little now and again when characters from the H & s titles appear briefly, and vice versa. They really overlapped in Love's Winsome Warrior! 3. How many books are in the Heart & Soul series, including the Love titles? Currently there are 16 released titles, but I am working on more! 4. How many books do you plan to write in the complete series? So far there are plans for at least another 4 or 5 books, but that's not saying more won't be written as ideas and characters reveal themselves to me. 5. What is the hardest thing about the series? The darned time line! When I started writing, it was easy to say a year passed here, a year there, etc. But as the series grew, I realized if I wasn't careful, I'd be having my characters meeting each other and fighting to the last man and woman standing when they were 150 years old! So now I have to keep a time line. My apologies if there are any mistakes in that time line - I have tried my hardest to keep everything on track. 6. Do you have a favourite book/characters in the series? Actually, I do have a particular fondness for Shaque and Elyse from Soul of a Predator, and for Oriel and Jase from Heart of a Traitor. 7. Have you written anything else apart from this series? Yes, I have, four short stories and one full length one. Operation Seduction is a short, futuristic comedy romance in the Boys Down Under anthology. In Journeys of a Lifetime Anthology, there is my short horror story, Zombie Hospital (I had such fun writing that!), a thoughtful piece (from me? I know, shocking!) titled 'Perceptions', and then a real life account of a fire that threatened our home. The full length novel, Catwalk, is a futuristic romance, and was book 2 in a series written by 5 different authors. Unfortunately, the publisher closed and Catwalk is no longer available. It has been asked if the series could be submitted elsewhere, but the series was never finished, and authors have moved on to other projects. Sorry. 8. Who does the artwork on your book covers? Richard Stroud is the artist who does all my Love, Heart & Soul bookcovers, and he does a great job! The artwork is digital art. 9. Do you plan on writing in other genres? I hope to branch out into some supernatural horror, and would like to try my hand at a contemporary comedy romance. I also have an outline for an urban fantasy. It's finding the time to do it all! But one day…one day…. 10. If I had a great idea for a storyline for your series, can I send it to you? No offence meant to you, but no. All my stories are my ideas only. 11. I have a story. Would you read it? I'm sorry, I don't read other people's manuscripts, and I don't critique. I battle to find time to write and meet my own deadlines, as I also work full time, and I also don't have the heart to criticize another's writing. I advise that you join a critique group, if you wish, or polish your manuscript to the best of your ability and submit it to a publisher. Writing is a constant learning field. I wish you every success. 12. Any hints for a budding author? Read the genre you write in, check out what publishers accept this genre, see what authors they accept and read their books. Write what you know or do your research well. Know the genre you're writing for. Don't be disheartened by rejections - we all get them. Just keep trying and polishing your work. Some of the most famous authors of today had a draw full of finished manuscripts and rejection slips before they were 'discovered'. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ cheers Angela |
